Manipulative director lies about his business to get contracts and doesn’t pay freelancers, now using my images elsewhere without license.

Hi all, first post here, long time lurker on this sub. I've waited a long time to get this off my chest and am only now posting because I can't let him get away with using me again many years on, so please excuse the lengthy post. For context I am a cameraman in the UK and have been for a few years now. A few years ago when I was fresh out of media college I got regular work from a company that specialised in luxury hotels around the world. Lots of travel and I had little no other work so I said yes to pretty much everything without question (I know, I've learned a lot since then). The company director seemed decent enough at first, but little did I know he was going to turn into something like a villain out of a Netflix doc. He was in…

How much of a commute to work is acceptable?

Hey all! Was wondering on different opinions regarding your commute to work. Personally i am driving 30+ miles one way (About 90 minutes spent daily just driving to work) and was wondering how far others were willing to drive for their “Dream” job. My current employer is by no means my preferred profession but they offer all of the needed benefits in my life currently, between tuition reimbursement as a student and proper PTO for vacations i am happy. How far are you willing to drive to a job that properly meets your needs?

Going to work sick because Sedgwick is the devil

I've been sick for five days (not COVID), called out Friday, Monday and today. Tomorrow, I'm going back to work while still sick, because at my job, after three days we have to go on short term disability with Sedgwick, and they're a fucking nightmare to deal with. Not only that, but I had to use PTO for two of those days, as I don't get any paid sick time until day three, and day four has to go to the hellhole that is Sedgwick. Anyone else that would rather just deal with just about anything before having to communicate with those soulless monsters? Also, it's unfathomable that anyone should have to use personal time or not get paid to start home when sick, to avoid spreading any virus to customers and coworkers, especially when losing that time could mean literal bankruptcy for many people.

why would a bar job need to access my medical records?

i also posted this in legal advice UK, but i was hoping maybe someone here would have some insight. I have been offered a job at a bartender in a normal London bar – there is no extra strenuous or physical element to the work. They gave me a pre employment medical questionnaire that wants me to sign something allowing them access to my medical records. Why would they want this?? Surely any communication between my GP and employer can take place through me? I am very hesitant to sign because it just seems extremely shady. They also want me to sign something to opt out of the working time regulations 1998, if anyone could advise me a bit on that as well i would really appreciate it.

Sorry but not sorry

I was hired at Namesco, my current IT job a few years ago and negotiated a better deal on the way in than others in my team at my level.. Well I have been paying for it in 1% pay rises every year ever since. Sat down with my boss and asked what I have to do to get a pay rise..I offered to become an expert in our firewall..or backup solution…get more certifications ( that I pay for as they expected me to pay for my own training!!! WTF!) and he said that I can't get any more and that if they were to hire again then they would not pay my salary… So I could literally walk on water and it makes NO difference… This also means that I don't have to try..I just do my job now… none of the expected “extras” like working extra hours or…

I regret working in healthcare.

I absolutely hate that I slave day to day at a job where I literally save lives. Sure my patients are gracious but my boss is not. I fucking hate that my friends make more money than me working from home while fucking traveling. My dream is to travel the world and I have to hope to god I have enough PTO to do it. Granted I have been to quite a few countries. This is definitely a vent but can you imagine going to school for so long to save lives and yes I’m committed but I’m fucking salty. Covid helped everyone else out but the people sticking their necks out. edit: throwaway account bc ya knowwww

Thoughts on PTO blackout periods?

The company I work for has a PTO blackout from April 15 to June 15 and everyone also has to work every weekend as well as it’s the “busy season” I get that it’s busier than normal but I don’t believe that we should have to give up our personal lives for 2 months straight as we get 2 weeks max of peak foot traffic. I just want to know what y’all have to say about that.

how to write a resignation letter – not doing oncall

I am resigning. I am fully prepared to give 30 days notice. But in the middle of that is my oncall week which I have no intention of doing. How do I write a resignation letter stating that without coming across like a jerk. I want to say “I'll stay for 30 days but i'm not doing call” or I'll stay two weeks and end before my call week. LOL

Back To The Office Feelings

So they finally forced me to go to office for two days, I'm already looking at other companies and it will not last but, let me tell you how it is in my case. Got to the office… Covid check in, do the RAT test… a guy tested positive. They escort him out and wish him all the best. Like what happens now, I mean he was in the office… leaving traces of virus right? Nah ignore that and move on! I then proceed to spend the next 5-6 hours on Teams! I am talking video calls that involves 4 people in the office, sitting in the 10m radius around me and 2 people online. But because there's always someone who's not in the office now… we have to do video calls. So even with noise cancelling headphones you hear the guy in person who's talking next to you… then…

has anyone actually been asked to show proof of a college degree for a job?

Considering adding a college degree from a school I dropped out of onto a resume for a job I’m definitely capable of doing. Too risky?
