I am still underpaid so I don't consider this a solid win. A soft win? My salary was previously 41.2k for a fast paced environment designer at a promotions agency. My job is a mid-level job. Realistically, I should be compensated at least 60k from the workload & technical skills required for my position. In my review I stated that I believe a salary of 52k would be appropriate due to knowing the wages of two other designers and a recent shift of responsibilities to be more reliant on in-house designers while the remote designers has increased. I was countered with 47,5k and accepted it. For more context: My company has had high turnover specifically in the art department. When I started, they still had 1 more open position after hiring 3 designers within a month. I was the 3rd hire. Since I started, the team has had 3 more…

So now we have to “trick” job apps too?
I'm so tired of these apps making job hunting harder. And now I'm just learning that I have to somehow “trick” an AI to actually get my resume through to employers? As if simply applying for jobs all day long while battling debilitating depression and poverty isn't hard enough. Down with LinkedIn! Screw Indeed and ZipRecruiter. They're making the wealth gap wider and hurting millions of poor people, just to benefit their shareholders!
Those poor little employers
Recruiter hung up during job interview
So today I received a phone call from a recruiter as I’ve been looking for grad jobs and left my cv on a site some months ago, so anyway they ring me out of the blue and ask what I’m looking for. Within a few minutes they start asking me generic interview questions like name a time I’ve gone above and beyond to deliver excellent customer service. I asked if we could reschedule the interview as I was not prepared ( I was literally in the middle of babysitting my younger brother), she said no as I don’t sound very enthusiastic and that I’ve got to be on the ball 24/7 for potential employers – so yeah guys even when you don’t have a job you can’t escape. Shit I wasn’t enthusiastic- why would I be enthusiastic about some recruitment office job when she even said I had a great…
Starbucks Memphis
According to CNN, a Memphis location has fired 7 employees who were involved in trying to unionize. Boycott!
Just had an interesting text exchange. Me: Hey [Owner]! This is Decan. I worked for you briefly last year and I was wondering if you would need me to come to the restaurant for my W2 if it was easier for you? Hope you're well! Thanks! Owner: I mailed them already. I'll check on re-printing one for you when I get in there Owner: Decan you don't have a W-2 from me since you work for so short I didn't bother To put you on the books I just paid you straight up Couple of things to add: – I was never told I was being paid “off the books” – He told me verbally that he needed some time to write me a check because he needed to take out taxes – I filled out all qualifying paperwork (I-9 and w4) I'm guessing I just file my taxes without…
who here has a codependent boss?
Help please explaining inflation!
Hi! For reference, my husband and I live in northern California, where the minimum wage is $15 – far above the federal minimum. My husband is complaining that ever since, prices have sky rocketed, but I’ve been trying to explain that 1) the inflation happened before the wage hike and 2), after adjusting for inflation, the real wages are still lower and therefore not the problem. Could someone please point me to some research to help explain this to him? I think he’s just ignoring my arguments because I’m angry about being exploited by my bosses (which I have been) and because traditional economics says that the two are linked (which yes, they are, but that’s not tue current driver of the inflation), so fact-based external information would help me convince him that I’m not just standing on a soap box! Thank you in advance!!
