17 years working swing shift
I would just about kill for a “9-5” I just hit my 17 year anniversary where I work and for that entire time I've been on swing shift. 5 days on 3rd shift with 2 days off, (they consider getting off work at 7am as a day off) then 5 days on 2nd shift with 1 day off, and finally, 5 days on 1st shift with 3 days off. (They consider going in at 11 at night to be a day off) I actually have 53+ work weeks a year so that's fun. This was originally my comment on another post but I think it deserves a little better.
Bruh Seriously. Like, there's exploitation, there's rewarding scabs and anti-union workers, and then there's…whatever fuckery this is.
How can moral people become wealthy?
I read this sub for quite a long time already, but I'm not sure if it's the right place to ask this question. So, I used to be where an average person is today. I used to work for a minimal salary and then I got paid more and more. For some time, I thought that this is a ladder to prosperity and I was excited to get a 5% raise etc. But something changed in me several years ago. Today I hate capitalism and I see abuse and exploitation everywhere. I can't relate to most people who just blindly allow this system to work, because I feel sick of it. I think that the world would be a much better place if people weren't so blind. But I don't blame them. This system is designed in the way to make everyone too busy and tired to even acknowledge the…
Recently took on more responsibility in healthcare HR outside of my role. Did this for free for months now. Got a hard to get certification that I was told to get. I sent updated resume with certification for pay increase today. I was told that everything looked good, but won't give me an increase until after august. Told that budget didn't allow for the increase yet so I have to wait. In the mean time I would still be doing the added responsibility with no increase. Kind of crappy…am I being a baby or did I get crapped on by a company that really doesn't like to give increases.
Recovering From An Abusive Job
I did not find full-time work until age 28. From age 28-30 I was a civil servant doing some financial administration for grant-funded infrastructure projects. I thought this work was perfect for me: I had family who'd been in civil service and I'd done some grants administration before. I even knew that civil servants were overworked and underpaid but didn't care because I needed the above-average healthcare benefits. I had good coworkers, but they were not able or even allowed to step in when constituents/grantees got nasty. I had citizens, even elected officials, email me lewd criticisms. “Whose cock do I have to suck to get funding?” one mayor asked me. I never got through all my emails, I never fully mastered each little process, and I began avoiding my files, getting scolded twice for being on social media during work. Frustratingly, state senators and state representatives had to approve…
Hours shortened, expected to clean MORE?
Hi all, i don’t know where to post nor rant as I’m just frustrated with my workplace at this point lol. I usually work M-F 12-8pm Recently thats been shortened to 12-7, with one hour shorter my cleaning duties at the end of the day were also halved. The following week im expected to clean the same amount and the only thing that changed was hours. Im not getting paid extra, and i honestly feel like im being cheated. Im NOT going to clean MORE and be paid LESS. I don’t know what to do lol, I’ve been with this company for 3~ years and have had no issues thus far. It literally feels like I’m the “cleaning shift” when in fact, i am not. I don’t mean to belittle or put down the cleaning shift, i do my absolute best to not leave them with a ton of work…
Title! After years of putting up with the soul-sucking bullshit this job includes, I feel the biggest weight being taken from my shoulders. No more dealing with management's unnecessary changes that us slaves pay dearly for! No more dealing with the biggest, most idiotic low IQ “managers” this planet has ever seen! No more being paid minimum wage despite my 6 years of working there! You know what the best part is? They don't even know I quit! LOL, they're gonna have to figure that out on their own. Let's just say the amount of money I make working 5 hours at my new job is equivalent to 8 hours at this old one. With managers who are actual friends and leaders who you can respect!
I used to work in a manufacturing facility and the manager running the line would always throw around Vince Lombardi quotes, it drove me absolutely insane. Example would be, it was lunch time but we were almost finished on a unit. Someone would ask to goto lunch, and he would respond “The price of success is hard work, and dedication to the job at hand.” It was confusing, annoying, comical, and maddening all at once. Curious if anyone else has encountered this “management style” and if anyone has ever been inspired by it to work harder.
One of my jobs is forcing employees to come in for a sexual harassment training on an unusual day and time for only one hour and they only gave employees two days notice of this. Los Angeles Fair Work Week Ordinance states they have to give employees two weeks advanced notice of shifts. Should I not go and if they retaliate try to sue them?
