Starting new position. Had panic attack

Last week I asked about the position's employee handbook for any red flags I needed to watch and some people were quick to call it a factory job. It's an outdoor park position so I figured being outside will be right up my alley, and it's with the state rather than the private sector, so I thought it was made for me. However, today I submitted the needed documents and got my schedule for the first week. I start Thursday and get Friday and Tuesday off. That's when I realized what people meant by factory job, because I wouldn't know what my days off would be until the week I started working. This isn't like a typical 9-5 where I know I have Saturday and Sunday off, no, it's being held prisoner by the firm. In retrospect, another red flag I should have known about is how quickly they hired…

Still not over what my company did to me during Covid

In December 2019 I got a job that I was genuinely excited for and had worked my way to earning for awhile. It wasn’t high paying or very impressive, but it was in my chosen industry and seemed like the perfect first step for what I ultimately wanted to do. By March 2020, the office had shut down, but I was still able do my job and it seemed like things might be okay. In October later that year I was finally laid off. My boss and HR were as nice as they could be, assuring me it had nothing to do with my performance and that the company was just having to keep making cuts. I took it as well as I could, my boss was supportive and seemed genuinely upset she had to let me go. My attitude was “this sucks and I’m upset but I also understand…

Old story but was I wrong?

Ok so here’s a bit of an odd story from when I was a bit younger working at my 2nd job where construction tore through all the sidewalks leading to the store. So when I was 22 I worked at a grocery store far from home. I knew there was a bit of construction going on on the opposite area where I worked but didn’t know it would find its way to my job a minth later. I took the bus like usual one day and stopped as I saw that they had ripped both side of the street’s sidewalks and were working on the pipes in the grassier areas too. Dumbfounded, I tried to see a way around to get to work but no luck. I tried to speak to my manager but none could give an alternative and were just like “welp better find a way before 9:30”…

Why do customers have to be such assholes to those serving them?

I work at a full serve Carwash. We do a lot for our customers including vacuuming their car, driving it through the wash, cleaning outside and inside of all windows, wiping down the body, dusting the interior, cleaning out cup holders and cleaning door panels and door jams. So we do a lot for our customers and it is important to me that our service is high quality and I do a lot to make sure cars that come to our full serve clean top to bottom. So I am working on a truck and different customer demands that I stop working on that truck and tend to his truck. He demanded I put tire shine on his tires. I said in a friendly voice. “Tire shine is applied in the tunnel sir. But I can get your door panel for you.” I improved his door panel considerably. He then…

So exhausted from being denied for jobs or losing them in favor of some kid with a degree.

I had to drop out of university due to economic reasons, not for lack of ambition. But, even if I had never gone to university, I can guarantee you that my skills and performance meet or exceed those of most people with even a master's degree. While many of them were spending sleepless nights, cramming for tests on seemingly abstract material, of which they would only absorb about 15% of with any level of semi-permanency, I was actually out there, DOING the job and learning the majority of those details in an applied, and therefore fixed, manner. So, you are trying to say that my nearly 20 years of experience is less desirable than that of someone with a brand new degree and whose experience is limited to a 3-6 month internship which mostly consisted of them punching in to float around, getting coffee for the boss and filing papers…

How long do you guys get to poop?

When I got back to my desk, I also had two instant messages at 8:34am saying pretty much the same thing.
