I’m actually making $18.75 per hour, which is a few dollars more over minimum wage here State and federal taxes are ridiculous, in addition to social security, Medicare, and disability tax, wtf!!! I’m not even joking when I say I have about 23% in deductions each paycheck. 23 PERCENT I’m too afraid to do my taxes myself and make a mistake, so I have them done for me “professionally”. I’m getting back a total of just over $640. How is that even possible? Guess that’s what I get for being single with no kids. I was expecting back a few thousand. I feel so dumb I know the solution is “just get a better job”, but easier said than done. Why even apply somewhere low paying in the first place then? Hard to just go straight to max earnings I love CA but losing almost 1/4 of my pay is…

Managers = modern day slave masters
As someone who's in the tech industry, it is beyond me why we still adhere to this antiquated structure that originated hundreds of years ago. It is unfortunate that as companies get bigger, they get bloated with useless middle managers, and these same morons are responsible for overhiring the minions as part of their empire building who eventually get laid off during economic downturns. At my company, managers are mostly people managers, notorious for not contributing anything technically, and they still get to decide your ratings. Many managers would defend their positions saying that good managers serve as shit buffers, they set scopes for the team, blah blah blah, but the reality is many of them are just passing down orders from the top, where each layer dilutes the message. As for me, managers more often than not are just big elephants in the room, disrupting the team and ruining…
Vent: I wish my last boss saw my value
December, 2022, I got hired as a customer service agent for a call center job. I had my own cubicle and was basically a help desk for a handful of companies, disputing customer claims via tickets, emails, and phone calls. The work was straightforward, relaxed, and kinda fun. I had minimal supervision and a lot of freedom, and on top of that, even though I was there for nearly 2 months I was one of the hardest working employees in the office. I answered upwards of 30 calls a day compared to the average 10-15 calls my colleagues made. I solved 100 tickets a day and made it a point to work diligently since this is the first job I had that made me feel like I could actually do something right (I'm disabled and very weak so a lot of physical labor from old jobs made it impossible to…
Being present in Rojava and dedicating myself entirely to building and maintaining this revolutionary process has given me a new perspective on life and how to live… I'm going to share a little reflection here. We are used to dealing with the reality imposed on us by the system and it is hard for us to imagine anything different from that reality. Not having to worry about the stresses of consumer capitalist everyday life is liberating. Not worrying about bills, wages, arrears, bosses, bosses, etc. Of course, here the concerns become other, in many cases much more difficult to deal with and that require a great internal effort. However, using the mechanisms of the Revolution and living in line with hevaltî (comradeship) it is possible to learn, evolve and fight in the right way. Against external and especially internal enemies. The fact that we are in a place where a…
Is this considered workplace disability discrimination? I posted this on /r/legaladvice too, but just wanted to see if there are others who’s been through similar issues and if there’s any way for me to peacefully resolve this. I’m a bit hesitant on going to HR because of the backlash from the employees who’ll immediately know who ‘snitched’ on them regarding this. So I have lasting injuries from a prior incident years ago that still affects me to this day. I cannot stand, walk, or run for long periods of time without having debilitating pain that lasts for days. I’ve recently been hired at a convenience store and had started on-site training yesterday. I work full-time, an 8-hour shift. Near the end of my shift tonight I asked my supervisor if there was any way that I can get accommodated due to my physical disability, like having a chair to sit…
Labor law and pay question
Hello all! Joined awhile back. Mostly a lurker but felt the need to ask a few questions. In the past I’ve been salary management. I’ve always made sure that if an employee even went 1 min over their 5 hours. They were paid their break violation. I did anything and everything legal for my employees. Due to covid finding work had been tough. Had a few jobs here and there. All being salary. I find myself back in hourly and feel my current employer is bending me over and taking my money. Currently live and work in California. Working 5×10 hour days. Noticing that our pay is based on this fixture but our 5th day is only 8 hour reg pay and 2 OT. Which doesn’t add up past the 40 hr work pay. Additionally due to the nature of the restaurant I work in. There are often times (90%…
