America's biggest export is, in my opinion, its culture. And while some may disagree with this, it is no doubt a big export from the states. The Americanization of other countries can be seen in a variety of areas like: large American companies spreading abroad to the success of Hollywood globally. With the spread of American culture, the political system we have(an oligarchy, more or less) has been fostered by a great deal of countries. America is obviously not an outright oligarchy, but it is not too hard to see that the “democracy ” has been twisted into a ruling class of the richest people. (Just look at wealth inequality and the way political campaigns receive mega donations, the people in power like power, and the people with money like money, so they consolidate) Now, for a while, I thought this was a uniquely American problem, which is horrible in…

In a dystopian world far far away…
I (24F) work with the special needs program at a middle school. I love my job. I love my kids. I love the connections I make and the support and love I get to provide. I even enjoy my bosses. I can’t afford to continue working here. I work full time, 5 days a week. I teach, both make and modify assignments, manage behaviors and deescalate violent situations, change diapers, help with toileting, operate lifts, respond to and document seizures, administer medication, and in many many other ways provide just general accommodations to students with physical, intellectual, and behavioral disabilities. I am passionate about accessibility, and LOVE being able to provide the support these kids deserve, that myself and my peers never received in school. I made less than $15,000 last year. My rent alone is $1300 a month, and that’s after my landlord lowered it recently. This is my…
Perfectly qualified but a last resort
Sorry in advanced for the rant but I dont have any friends to hear me out. I interviewed for a position last week that only required 6 months to a 1 year of work experience, a high school diploma and ofc access to internet and the ability to work onsite for training. I have not only some college experience but 3 YEARS of customer service experience which involved administrative work. I tried my absolute best to shine and be charming during the interview. They emailed me to say I wasnt selected but wanted to reach out if someone drops out and they need to backfill. This is a non-phone position which has been my dream for years now, no one is going to drop out. I really needed this job because Ive been unemployed for 4 months now due to my recent PTSD diagnosis and Im looking at getting evicted.…
I started working at a bar/restaurant/music venue about 3 weeks ago, had two training shifts. One of which I was cut and sent home about half way through because management was so disorganized that they really had nothing planned for me to learn. I texted my manager two days ago to follow up about pay and a next shift and have heard nothing. I concerned because aside from texting her about shifts I have no proof I was even there. They didn’t onboard me or even look at my ID. (Interesting because because I worked at several bars in this state and making sure anyone pouring or even just serving liquor needs to be abc certified and over 21 they never asked or checked). I’m not sure what the next step is.
In the last year my dog of fourteen years and a couple really close friends died. Then my mom committed suicide six months ago. Plus a plethora of minor shit that has added up to being the worst year/year and a half of my life. Yesterday some asshole slammed on their brakes to a stop in the left lane and someone plowed into me going 70, totaling my only car. My boss just bought me a new car to make sure I can still go to work and provide for my four kids. I live paycheck to paycheck like everyone else. It would’ve taken months to buy a beater. I would’ve lost my job due to no transportation. But my boss said I was valuable and only have had good words from other employees about my work ethic. There are a few good ones out there. I’ve only been with…
What do you guys think about this? It seems pretty heartless. At the same time, I guess the company needs to fill the position. What do you guys think the right way to handle something like that? Does it make it worse that he died on the job?
I’m applying for a job and it’s been several years since I have done regular work. I’ve been doing gig work like rideshare. I only have a couple of “real” jobs on my resume but one of them was a family business and the other I fudged the dates to make it look like I stayed longer than I did. Please, will somebody be my reference? I really need this job, I need the money and the stability. It’s been so many years since I’ve done this (job searched) and it’s so different than it was! I’m doing the background check paperwork but I don’t know how to complete it without this.
