So I was working as a server at a small bar and grill. It was so slow, I was making so little, so I applied for other jobs. Got one the day I turned my application in. Was told i was polite, professional, experienced, etc. at a fine dining place. Used to work at the garden of olives which isn't fine dining but I have experienced rushes and bad customers and I know what serving is like. Like any place, training is always a lot to learn and you'll grow as you practice right? WRONG! Just got a call from the manager today they didn't want me to continue and it wouldn't work out. How tf would you know if you haven't given me a shot? The lady I was working with was an anal bitch who snapped in my face and said I was moving too slow. She's not…
Hello! So I am an hourly California employee, I work by myself as a full time contractor at a customer facility. The company I work for just implemented a new lunch break policy that I feel is completely unfair and irrational. Do you guys know if this is legal? 30 min break 1: at exactly 4 hours after clocking in. Cannot ge waived. 30 min break 2: At exactly 8 hours after clocking in, so basically 3 1/2 hours after the first meal break. Cannot be waived 30 min break 3: At exactly 12 hours after clocking in. Cannot be waived. The state of California states that I must be given a lunch break before the end of the fifth hour so basically five hours and 30 minutes into my shift and then another 30 minutes after the 10th hour but my company completely undercut it and implemented their own…
why no chairs?
I worked as a cashier at a grocery store for 2 weeks 15 yrs ago…. Torture. Standing… For hours… No customers… Not allowed to read a book… Not allowed to walk around and… Clean, stock shelves, nothing. Forced to NOTHING for HOURS… Why??? Ever since…. Every time I go to a store I feel so compassionate for the cashiers. Why no chairs? WHHHHYYY? Like psychological and physical torture or something . Just for no reason. No cashiers can have chairs in u.s. Why?
Gotta love contradictions
My employer just had us sign and acknowledge a sick policy update that states coming in to work sick will be grounds for disciplinary action up to termination. The last time I tried to call off sick, they wanted me to go to the doctor and spend $100+ for a note to prove that I have a cold. I don't have insurance nor can I afford a random $100 out of the blue, so I am forced to work sick regularly because I can't afford to prove that I am in fact sick. Show up to work sick: fired. Call out without a doctor's note: fired.
Purpose with no job.
I couldn’t handle the corruption and stupidity at my last job so I left. I am relatively taken care of financially, meaning I won’t be homeless but I also don’t have spending money. Where do you find purpose without work? I feel like the system is set up so unless you’re a cog in their shit machine you’re nothing and can do nothing. Can’t operate a business from my apartment and just living in an apartment is very constricting. Volunteer opportunities are very limited in this small Ohio town. What can we do day in and day out with our time? I’m single, have no friends and don’t travel. I’m just left with this feeling of “now what?”. Read and play video games and walk all day every day?
