Talking to manager about unfair pay
I’m been working so hard on courses to get a raise at work and I waited for three pay periods for it to actually go through! We just got two new hires and they are getting a higher starting pay then I did and they’re making exactly as much I’ve been contacting so many managers and owners to finally go through. This pay period I saw I make 25 cents more than them now but I still think it’s highly disrespectful that I had to fight them for months for this to go through and these new people get it right out the door. I’ve never had to talk to higher ups about something like this so I’d really appreciate some suggestions on how to handle this!
So, this story may sound unbelievable, but every word I'm going to tel you is true. If you've ever worked in startups, you will probably be able to relate more as there are a lot of psychopathic founders and CEOs who just do not care at all about their employees and make colossally stupid decisions all the time. Now, I was C level in Silicon Valley for 10 years. I was CEO of my own startup that went on to sell. I had a good reputation. I'm a very capable engineer. One issue that plagues startups is that when they get their hands on an over-performing engineer, they will basically just heap work upon him/her. I’ve worked retail for over 20 years. Most of that time was in CA, where companies I worked for took meal and rest breaks pretty seriously due to audits, fines and other measures. Now I’m in CO and I was just talking with an employee at a retail store run by a certified B Corp company and he told me that he’s working an 8 hr shift with no rest breaks and he cannot clock out for his lunch. It’s gross that companies either do not ensure their leaders understand local labor laws or that they hire managers that take advantage of younger workers.
God Save The Working Classes
I left my former employer on 14th April after a 3 month notice period, to take up a position at another franchise of the same business. During my notice period I discovered that previous unpaid sickness had been deducted at an incorrect hourly rate and raised this with one of the directors (it’s a franchise business with 3 directors). My last payslip from them shows that these hours have been corrected but my accrued holiday is missing. I messaged the director who deals with payroll on April 27th asking if this could be looked into but I haven’t even had acknowledgment of the message (it was sent through WhatsApp so I know it’s been read). I’m wondering if the below message would be the right way to proceed with it before contacting ACAS? “Firstly thank you for sorting the hourly rate corrections, however I am disappointed to have to send…
