So my partner is a salesperson & the CEO's PA for a small company in Victoria, Australia. On top of her end of year bonus (essentially a commission on sales made through the year) she and everyone else in the company (80+ employees) got a hamper just like this one. Because she works from home, they only got hers to us today.

Took the Leap
I recently left my employer about a week ago. Idk how many people are in my position but I was in sales for health insurance, I am also in my mid 20s. With lack of preparation to the employees, switching schedules from one day to another, long hours during aep(10+hrs for 7weeks) We reached new metrics this year made more money than the last and what we get in return is two days off unpaid lol If you want to get paid use YOUR PTO. My manager to end a preshift said “Everyone is replaceable” and that just rubbed me entirely the wrong way. Now I know how to do my job I was in T1 for all my time selling so I know it wasn’t personally directed at me but still. I’ve been working in caregiving for about six months now. The job isn’t bad, caring for residents etc. however, I’ve never worked a job where staff talk so much shit about each other. Before this I worked in the prison system for six years and inmates don’t even complain about there jobs. In this field you help residents get changed into new clothes. You also help them get cleaned up like depends, shaving etc. honestly I’m a new father so the changes don’t bother me BUT! Staff dude…… I’ve seen people leave residents in there depends or just straight up be shitty to them. Sorry for the rant. I honestly thought people that come into the field of care for the disabled would honestly understand that we have to help them. People are soooooooo shitty. And narcissists let’s not forget that one.
This is actually happening at my current job. Guy just left after a year for a great new opportunity. He was hired as a department manager, ends up being the whole department himself and our CEO doesn't want to replace him as he thinks that other workers can pick up that job along with their daily tasks
The real definition of “Short Staffed”
Overworked and under paid is a very profitable business model. Branding it “Short Staffed” has been a big boon for many businesses. It also conveniently shifts blame away from those who exploit workers and onto the workers themselves. It has the additionally profitable benefit of dramatically lowering customer expectations. Win/Win for those “suffering” at the top during these hard times.
I feel like this is something that everyone has gone through at some point. I remember when it happened to me for the first time. I was in high school working at Cracker Barrel and when I was first employed, they gave me an availability sheet to fill out. I said that I would be free every single day morning AND evening, except for Thursday nights because I wanted at least one gap in my schedule where I could regularly be free so that I could complete homework. (I was 16 btw). A week later, I got my schedule and I was scheduled to work Thursday evening. I wanted to be a good employee and be responsible by telling my boss about it the very second that the schedule was posted instead of waiting until the day of and making her find someone to cover me last minute.
