My company used to bring everyone to the HQ city once a year with their spouses so that all the remote folks could hang out together. Apparently despite making more money this year, they've spent too much on new company software and hiring to afford it. So we got a $200 gift card instead and some emails about how well the company is doing and how much they appreciate us and a gift card for less than they would have spent on a hotel room. But it's nice seeing pictures of outings that the in-office employees do every few weeks that I'm sure are paid for by the company.
