My company are saying that I have to have a company car as part of my job. I don’t really use it other than for commuting so have to pay a large amount in tax on it. I don’t see the point of having it, but at this point it seems to be a forced benefit. So I’m having to sell my car to make room on the driveway for this new one I don’t require.
My main problem is that they are also making me pay the insurance for it. They don’t offer any contribution to the insurance whatsoever. It costs more to insure than my current car, so it is actually costing me more than my old car!
I have done some Googling but I can’t seem to find any legal regulations that set out rules for company cars, and if they can be forced upon you.
Any ideas on what I should do? Ideally I don’t get the company car and continue commuting under the business insurance on my cheaper personal car. I explained this to my employer but they keep tell me it’s a benefit and to be grateful…
