tldr: my coworker has been out for a month and will be for the foreseeable future, is it reasonable for me to ask for additional compensation for taking on their workload?

i am one of a team of three, my other coworker and i switch off taking their work each day. it’s not impossible to do theirs and mine, but it can be a lot, especially with our busy season ramping up. i’m glad to help out and i also value my labor. my job is getting three employees’ worth of work for the price of two and that’s increasingly irritating. especially since our leadership doesn’t know when they’ll be back. Words are nice and all, but i’m tired of empty ‘Thanks for your hard work!’ 3x a day because that doesn’t pay the bills. And I don’t make much to begin with. I think my other coworker and I deserve compensation that reflects our extra workload.

Anyone have advice on how to go about this?
