Coworkers have no desire to unionize

I work at a certain fast food/coffee shop chain who’s workers, to my knowledge, have not established any sort of union. This has led to us being taken advantage of and losing many little perks and benefits of working there such as all of the drinks that we make being free for us as well as getting raises for dealing with the increasing influx of people going there. I’ve brought up the idea of unionizing to my coworkers, but none of them show any interest in establishing one because of “union dues” and other trivial reasons. Why would some workers go against their own interests to save money on dues that go toward getting them raises and benefits?
