Posting here since said lurch is heavily affecting this sub as well, with most posts that blow up having about half their comments amount to puritan shaming of the OP, capitalist shilling, downplaying of issues, and the typical chauvinist argument of “Well [X] Third World country is worse or something”.
Basically what I'm seeing right now is a heavy right wing lurch on Reddit. Most apolitical subs are being heavily shat up with right wing culture war hysteria, many of the subs targeting young people like /r/GenZ have a very potent and growing right wing presence as well, most of the actual leftist subs are dead or dying to the point that one of the most active “leftist” subs is essentially just a right wing culture war pipeline for the few people on this site still interested in systemic critique and radical change (Stupidpol).
I do not think this shift is remotely organic, this is a shift that has coincided with, thus far, the 2020 BLM protests, the 2022 Invasion of Ukraine, and the ongoing War in Gaza as well as the lead up to the 2024 US presidential election. It is already well-known that reddit is regularly brigades by state and corporate interests, it is already suspected that some subs are just straight up controlled by special interests, it is already known that the Right has billions backing their propaganda war.
And while this noticeable and thus far successful propaganda offensive is being carried out, the Right has, for the entire time, claimed victim status, claimed that they are being silenced, even as they tighten their grip on Reddit and other social media, all denying this is occurring because, for this fleeting moment, centrist liberals still hold the reigns.
Be aware of what's happening, if you remember it this is like 2015 and 2016 all over again, eyes up.
