Im a plumber thats trying to sedge-way out of s lot of field work. So applied for a field manager position got a phone interview, got signed up for an interview the next week at 3pm an hour away, so i had to take off work early and drive an hour there.
I get greeted when i walk in the door its a big company so it had s big fancy office. They ask me what the exact job title I applied for and I tell them. They then inform me the position was filled earlier that week and apologized, but since I was there I could interview for a regular plumbing position. I was so shocked I kinds just went a long for the ride hoping they would offer some other position, and just coasted on autopilot since I had no desire to work that far away for a job I was already doing.
I did have a good moment when one if the guys asked my preferred payment type, and I went on a mini rant how straight commission 100% of the time fucks over their clients and promotes people to do shitty behavior, which broke the facade of the older manager finally as it stumbled over his words to agreed, but then tell me some of the best people he’s known have worked commission (very by the book sales answer to acknowledge the concern then deflate it) and thanked my for my interesting take. I did not know the company was that skewed towards commission when I replied, so I was at least happy to throw him for a loop after wasting my time.
