Ethical Concerns Survey Sent At Work

I received an ethics survey at work this morning. It seems that companies are really interested in promoting “ethical behavior”, but not really doing what is required to promote ethical behavior. I let them have it in the survey (I doubt it will do much good). Pay in the workplace. It is great that you want to promote ethical behavior in the workplace. However, there are actors and forces beyond your control. Right now, inflation has still high. 3% pay raises aren't cutting it and believe it or not, hunger is a powerful motivator. We may want to consider raises that keep up with inflation. Otherwise, more people will engage in “unethical” behavior and others less likely to report it. It may be unethical in the company's eyes, but letting my family starve would definitely be the greater of two evils. And I can't fault someone who needs to eat…

It may be unethical in the company's eyes, but letting my family starve would definitely be the greater of two evils. And I can't fault someone who needs to eat if they steal a loaf of bread.

I said some other stuff about AI and LLM training data, but something tells me their eyes are going to glaze over.
