Externalities at work

I have recently started a new job and am already really grossed out by the externalities and additional costs of doing business being pushed onto workers. It's bad enough that my trainer told me to read policies at home instead of giving me adequate time to do so during work hours. It's bad enough they require me to start ten minutes early and finish ten minutes later than I'm paid for. But when I asked what to do about the cleaning cloths we use in the workplace I was told I needed to either take them home to wash them in my own washing machine (!) or take them to a laundromat and pay for it myself (!!). Uh that's a no from me. I'm also being asked to collect an order for the workplace both outside of my work hours and using my own transport. Why do big corporations…

Why do big corporations think it's reasonable or appropriate to push these little extra costs of doing business onto their low level employees?

Two other people have left this position in the past six months and they seem to have trouble understanding why they can't hold onto staff. It's getting clearer to me every day I work there…
