…..And to be honest, I am feeling a bit releived.
At my previous company I became unhappy during covid. My amazing manager was amongst layoffs and I got a not-so-great manager after so I decided to leave.
The current company stuck out to me because they reached out to me twice. First time they wanted me to work with a client in the pharmaceuticals industry which I really didn't want to. Few months later they came back with the automobile industry and I was excited. The interview went well and the work was in my specialty and skillset.
They followed up, only they wanted me to interview with the pharmaceutical client and the money was 40% more than my previous salary. I interviewed and liked the people and team.
Forward another week I accept the job offer. Then a couple of days later recruiters reach out again saying my client and team will change. It will be the same industry but a much more well-known company. I have to sign the offer letter again and I do so. I request the job description and it was similar but the tool used was a decade-old CRM software I have not used since my first job out of college. I was told I wad being hired for my skills with Salesforce Marketing Cloud. At this point I put in my 2 weeks at my previous job.
I went along with it. It was fairly chill and I was getting good feedback my first 6 months. Then all of a sudden during my 1-year review the operations manager told my direct manager my performance has declined. This was shocking as my direct manager requested regular feedback from the operations manager and all seemed fine.
I do what I can to improve and I received positive feedback again. 4 months after my first year I had a change of manager due to restructuring, but the operations manager remained and he forced me into a promotion. I initially turned it down because it was way different than what I do. It was more towards project management whereas I am a Data Analyst/CRM Analyst.
I had absolutely no training or onboarding for a role that was completely different on a brand and product that was also different. My new manager spent no time putting me on a 30-day PIP. The old operations manager, new operations manager, and my new direct manager were all friends. 2 months prior to the PIP I began really hating my job. I worked from 9am to 12am and had 4am meetings with overseas support for 2 months for a rebranding/relaunch of a product. The lack of sleep lead to severe anxiety, which lead to even more lack of sleep and me dreading Sundays afternoon.
The PIP started in July. It seemed reasonable. I hit all of my deliverables but my manager and operations manager nitpicked the smallest/weirdest details. For example, I had a meeting scheduled by the client in which I solved an issue live on a video call. I sent a follow-up email saying the problem has been resolved. My manager wrote me up for not making the E-mail clear to someone that might not have been looped in (hypothetically). I also got marks against me for not organzing the sharepoint folders, which is something I never heard of, or knew was an issue for the year plus I worked there.
I got fired first day of August. And to be honest, finally slept well and my anxiety disappeared for now. During the PIP I dreaded Fridays as well because I would have meetings with 2 people from HR and 2 managers. So glad to get that over with.
I knew a 30-day PIP meant they really wanted me gone. So I started applying for new jobs right away. I know all of the tips and tricks for how to create a resume using keywords from the job description and the formatting. I even hired a head-hunting agency. 300+ applications in, 50 rejections, and still no interview request.
