Good friend of mine a contractor, advised by his boss that he was training his FT replacement, what would you do?

So a good buddy of mine a contractor who was advised when contracted on that the position was CTH, was advised today by his boss that he would be training someone else for the full time employee position available for his current department. This person they are deciding to hire on has no experience in his department and is already a FT employee for the customer, just moving departments. So no surprise there, just corporate doing corporate shit. Anyways, they told him his contract would most likely just end in September. What would you all do in this situation?
