Alright so I'm gonna sum this up best I can, and I'm genuinely curious if I did anything wrong please let me know.
I've been at my job 5 months and a co worker around 11 months.
I was hired in at 13/ while they were hired in at 12 and given a dollar when I got hired to put us both on the same pay. I feel really bad about this because he was not aware they say they stay pay at 13 now.
Long story short I was discussing this casually to my parents [I am F/20s] and they got on me because “You shouldn't cause drama discussing your pay”. I did not openly blurt it out and it was in private when asked. I tried explaining the benefit of discussing promotes equality and understanding for workers. Mentioned it is federally protected as a right.
But they got snippy and seemed to make me think I did something wrong. Any advice how to handle this? I'm not worried about my co worker talking to my boss about me or this convo because they should as a work place be able to defend their reasons for pay rates right? I can't be in trouble for it.. can I?
