My work is having a “meeting” soon. I work in an office, I believe it’s a meeting to go over the last year of work, profits, how the company is doing, etc. It’s for 2 hours on a weekday after working hours, in person (my office is in person too). Debating staying clocked in through the meeting and clocking out when I leave, and seeing what HR says at pay time.
They haven’t said if it is or isn’t “paid” or mandatory, but went around asking if we’d be going. Not “mandatory” but essentially mandatory. One of those. They’re giving us pizza, and no one knows why we’re meeting. Especially since we had two Christmas parties last month, only one of which during work hours, so we’ve all been together recently.
Don’t get me wrong, I like my coworkers, I’m “committed” to the company, but it feels like this could’ve been an email, or covered on company time. If it was a happy hour with my department or work friends I wouldn’t mind or clock in but it’s company wide, pizza, at a Elks Lodge type place, and they’re hinting they want everyone to go.
I can think of several things I’d rather be doing.
