“I don’t have an answer for you.”

Recently I received a job opportunity an hour away. It’s an opportunity that would literally change my life. I did what I thought to be the sensible thing and let my bosses know about the situation. They asked what the offer entailed and from previous conversations I thought they would give me a counter offer. To my surprise there were constant questions about the offer I received but no attempt to make staying any more desirable. When I finally asked what they could offer I was told “I don’t have an answer for you.” I do enjoy my job, but with that it solidified taking the new position.
