Context: I’ve been with this company going for 7 years now and I’m now the Quality Assurance Manager; couple months before Covid I was moving to a different city (1 hr away) from the office and they granted me permission to work from home.
Ok, so a few weeks ago we had a senior associate leave the company and a big portion of her responsibility was given to me to handle. On Thursday towards the end of my shift we had around 30 orders that have not been sent out to the customer and my boss called me and was upset that they were not completed. I had my hands tied all day and the staff in the office had no concern to help me out or take initiative and complete these orders. I get a call on Friday and my boss yells at me saying that I need to basically hold their hand and tell them they need to complete these orders. I tell him they are grown adults and I don’t have the time to babysit when I have all these projects I’m working on and they should show responsibility and take it upon themselves to work as a team and jump in when needed. He tells me “to be frank, I don’t like people working from home and you are the only exception I gave. You couldn’t stay an extra hour and complete these since you save 2hrs (to office and office to home) and complete these orders”.
I said “that’s not fair when others are not doing much and I’m doing the best I can to juggle the different departments I’m running. “
And he said “you know what I think I need you back in the office coming Monday”
And I said “that’s going to become more difficult for me to do and I don’t know if I can work this way”
And he said “just put your 2 weeks notice in now” and hung up.
Was I in the wrong? What should I do now? I can’t turn back time now so I guess I’m looking for any help if possible.
