I had a vacation scheduled 3 months in advance where I was going out of the country. The week before my vacation I caught covid. I turned in the necessary paperwork to let them know I was sick with covid that was on Monday the 12th. My manager left me message saying a could work remotely, which I had been begging for for months, or if I wasn't feeling up to it he would see me on the 27th (the end of my vacation). On the 19th (first day of my vacation) I received an email claiming I abandoned my job and I was terminated on the 19th. Being out of the country I had no internet access. On the 26th I called in to let them know I could be in on the 27th because my Southwest flight was cancelled (they screwed themselves and everyone who booked with them this year).
On the 27th HR called me and told me I hadn't been employed since the 19th. This was news to me because I never saw the email they sent because I was out of the country. They refused to pay me for my vacation and while I was sick with covid. Now I'm home and struggling to figure out what I can do as every place is laying off employees and unemployment says I was fired for cause for abandoning my job. I got covid and couldn't work. It's BS, I have no job, and very little money left.
