I wish my mom would quit.

My mom(53) works at a small grocery store. She does bakery work (orders, takes in deliveries, puts out product, etc). Very long story short, she was a stay at home mom, went through divorce, and had to find her way back into the workforce with no degree & a huge gap on resume. She’s been working this job for about 6 years now with no advancement, besides a $1 raise she had to beg for and it took over a year to get. My daughter (10) is up where she lives visiting family. My mom wanted to spend time with her. She called off for one day because she (my daughter) would be alone until family got home from work and she wanted to be with her grandma (my mom). They’re absolutely chastising her. Telling her she’s irresponsible, she can’t just take off when she wants, she shouldn’t have gotten her raise, etc.

Mind you, she gets to see her grandkids once a year, maybe twice if we’re lucky. And I just feel so bad for her. You shouldn’t be made to feel bad for spending time with your family.
