I had my fourth and final interview for a consultant position with a prestigious university today. I am 28F nearing the end of my master’s program. I have 4 years of experience at an entry/mid level job. I met, one-on-one, with a Senior Manager and I was shocked when he asked me what I make at my current role (which is about 40% less than the minimum salary they listed on the job posting when I applied). I kind of stuttered and tried to collect my thoughts before just telling the guy what I make.
Why would he ask me what my salary is? Did I fuck up by telling him? Is this normal? Is this a red flag? I just feel icky about it, among other aspects of the interview.
