Is 8-5 normal for salaried positions??

I don’t have a ton of experience on salaried positions but I was always under the impression that the standard was 9-5, and if you wanted a lunch break 8-5. I’ve had two job interviews recently where the mandatory hours are 8-5 and with an hour lunch break. I feel like if a lunch break isn’t optional than it’s a 45 hour week not 40. More specifically, I had an interview recently where they brag about having a 36 hour work week as one of their new innovative benefits. When I asked about it office hours, I was told you have to be in office 8-5 four days a week and then 8-12 or 1-5 on the fifth day which is still a 40 hour week.
