Is it okay for HR to lie?

Hi All, I attended a confidential meeting with HR today. They sent me an invitation yesterday and said they needed my help with some information, but I knew it was about my co-worker who is quite narcissistic and with who I had a confrontation some days ago. And I was right, the HR agent said that the interview was about that employee but he said he's got some feedback about her and he needs information about her. And then he asked me some very specific questions but that included some episodes that only she and I are aware of, so it was so obvious it was her who reported me to HR, not that someone complained about her. My question is, can HR lie to me like that in their meetings? Is it all right they make a false statement like that? It seemed to me that he said so…

My question is, can HR lie to me like that in their meetings? Is it all right they make a false statement like that? It seemed to me that he said so in order to have my guard down and wait for me to spill out some nasty shit (which I did not do.) I'd appreciate your input on this.
