This is just a rant. I've applied to hundreds of jobs since being laid off in April. Applied to this one on May 11. Since then I've had 1 phone interview, 3 video interviews, agreed to a background check and even a drug test! (I'm mid to senior level and haven't had a drug test in 10 years.) Quick aside: They missed one interview and called back later, then were 20 mins late for the 2nd interview.
FINALLY they offered me the job yesterday. I accepted and submitted all my paperwork thru their HR portal (I-9, proof of ID, address, etc.) I went to watch Oppenheimer to celebrate. When I checked my phone after the movie I had an email saying “we're SO SORRY but we have to rescind the offer. Our bad haha whoopsie!!”
I thought I was sick of being ghosted after interviews but somehow this is worse. My wife's theory is they offered the gig to a bunch of people and went with whoever accepted the lowest amount. Certainly possible but I also wasn't given an option. They actually offered me the higher end of my salary request. Anyway, I'm just tired of all the Linkedin posts and CNBC articles scolding job seekers to never be a minute late for interviews, write individual cover letters, send thank you emails, etc etc, but NEVER seem to scold the employers for their shitty behavior. Rant over.
