I am scaling up my business this year, beginning with an intern who is coming on while she finishes the last three months of her doctoral program. Compensation is not allowed during this time and there are strict rules around monetary gifts, but I do plan to offer top tier salary and full benefits as soon as she graduates. I'm building our company culture and I want the setting to reflect this as soon as she starts interning. I plan to have plenty of snacks and drinks on hand and will encourage her to spruce up her workspace on the company dime, but wondering what other gestures/perks I could put in place. I don't have the budget to go full-Google with pinball, shaved ice machine, etc., but what else is on the cutting edge of modern workplaces these days?
