Not sure if this belongs in malicious compliance but I thought it fits here.
I work in a call centre. Is a family owned one so not that bad by call centre standards.
They dont have any crazy performance metrics so as long as you do just above the bare minimum you are fine!
I somehow landed an cushy admin position on top of my customer service duties. Basically it involves booking things and some office admin stuff.
Now onto the story, we have a manger who everyone hates. She has no life outside of work, so can’t stand when other people do have lives.
For example, she was forced to take her annual leave last year since she never takes it. She still came in every day to ‘put out fires’ as she described it. Basically just annoying people.
She will then use this to give out to people who take their leave.
“I never take my leave.” Or “I wish I could take my leave, but this place would crumble without me.”
No one likes her, not even her bosses who are all pretty normal and well rounded people.
Anyway, we have a parking lot next to our building which we use if we drive to work.
She always parked in the same spot. Always. A new parked in her spot a few weeks ago and the manager came into the office and asked her to move. There were lots of empty spots, but still she caused a scene.
The new girl sent out an email cc’ing a few people apologising and saying she didn’t know we had assigned parking and it would never happen again.
This led to a chain reaction of about 5 people emailing back saying we didn’t have assigned parking and that she could park where she liked.
From the next day the manager started talking about how we need assigned parking.
No one else cared so we said we would.
First she wanted to do it based on ‘the existing spots people usually took’ but everyone else said that no one else but her had an assigned seat so that wouldn’t work.
Then she decided we should it it in alphabetical order. This was convenient as her name is something like Anne Browne. As in A, B, so she would have one of the first spots.
But here I agreed and said I’d arrange it and send out an email to everyone. She left very smug.
Rather than starting with the closest space, I started with the furthest away space. So she was now in one of the worst parking spaces and couldn’t complain.
It’s also important to note that after everyone got an assigned space, there were still over a dozen unassigned spaces right next to the building.
No one else used their assigned parking spots but anytime my manager parked somewhere else, someone mentioned it.
