Minimum wage should be $180.00/hr today

So by now most of us have probably seen the newspaper ad from the 1955 advertising a 2 bed one bath house for sale for $7450. In 1955, the minimum wage was $1.00/hr. A quick Google search showed me that the shittiest property within 100 miles of me with those specs is available for 589k, and was built in that era. So we do a little math, and the cost of the house in the ad comes to 3.58 years worth of pay. That converts to $71.00/hr in a straight conversion, but that's not the whole equation. Since the time of that ad, worker productivity has increased 252.9%. so that literally means that workers today are doing the jobs of 2.53 people from then. When you factor that in, the result comes to $179.63/hr that a worker today should be getting paid, just to be receiving the same money as…

When you factor that in, the result comes to $179.63/hr that a worker today should be getting paid, just to be receiving the same money as a minimum wage worker from 1955. And if you're looking at that and saying to yourself “that's an increase of 17,963%”, you are correct. So if you ever wonder if you're being underpaid for minimum output, see if you're making $180/hour. If you're only making $18/hour, you should probably only be doing about 10% of what you're currently doing. If you're making the federal minimum, you should only be doing about 3%.

This is why it's time to eat the rich. Right the hell now.
