My 16 year old niece just got her first job at a fast food place. They’re paying her minimum wage, which is $7.25 in my state. The job is at the same restaurant I worked at for my first job, in 2005. I made $5.15 an hour. That means that in the last 18 years, they have raised the pay by a whole $2.10 per hour. Holy hell. Really puts in perspective to see a real world example. The greed is horrifying.
Of course I knew the minimum wage was $7.25 and has been for a long while but something about the direct comparison of the same job role at the same company paying a mere $2 difference after 18 YEARS is blowing my mind. She wasn’t even BORN YET when I worked there!
