I need to know whether I’m overreacting about this.
I was very ill yesterday in work, and today I find out I have covid. I called in to say I’m ill but I am happy to work from home even though I feel awful, just so I 1) don’t infect anyone 2) don’t leave the team short as we’re having some staffing issues.
I was told today that I’m not allowed to work from home, and that I must take it as a sick day if I’m not well enough to come in. This would have been fine for one day, but I want to be able to work if I’m feeling better but still testing positive without infecting my colleagues.
Bare mind, not too long ago the whole team had meetings about our attendance and that we need to make sure we’re in work as much as possible.
Given this, I offered to work from home so I still would be present. But I was told it’s in the office or a sick day and no other options.
I responded back advising we have staff members in our team who are chronically ill, the last thing I’d want to do is pass Covid over to them and the rest of the team, it’s important we keep everyone safe. I have yet to receive a response to this.
I am also aware if I take the rest of the week sick off I will be on a final warning for my absence just because of how long Covid takes to go.
I’m in the UK. Does anyone have any advice on how I can handle this?
