I'm working as a receptionist with a small team in a huge office tower in Frankfurt, Germany at the front desk in the lobby area. Basically I have to give directions to people, announce guests for the offices in the tower or receive mail/packages. The pay isn't too bad and the hours are also ok, so not a lot to complain here. Especially when you worked in the hotel business with shitty hours and pay for almost 10 years. For context: A few weeks back we had an emergency on some top floor. Some guy had a seizure and an ambulance was called. Normally the offices upstairs have to call us at the front desk and security so the EMTs can get a direct route to an elevator asap. For some reason that didn't happen. So the ambulance arrives and we have no clue where they need to go. Fortunately…

Fair rate for industrial job
Delete if not allowed. I work on industrial air filtration systems, changing the filters pretty much, simple most of the time (if you pay attention) but physically demanding and tedious work. The crew is typically 5 people and the foreman, and one person from the company that contracts us. We go all over the place for two days to two plus weeks at a time, with average one to two days between jobs, usually driving. Occasional free time due to weather, shipping fuck ups, etc. The five people are contracted (1099 nec). Paid in gross, no healthcare, no benefits. We make $20 an hr, daily time and a half (typically 10 to 12 hr days), halftime for in the van travel (foreman maintains the work van/trailer), and hotels paid for. Food is on us. The foreman isn't feeling well and asked me if I could run things tomorrow. I said…
Railway Labor Act and NLRA: ELI5?
As a salaried airline employee, I’m told that I may not share my salary under fear of employment review. Turns out I don’t care much, because working for an airline rn is not… pleasant. That said, I turned to the NLRA to find verbiage to explain that it’s not ok to discourage employees to share their salaries when I noticed that due to the Railway Labor Act, airline employees are not covered under the NLRA. Why? What? How? Any recourse? And PSA: please be kind to your airline folks, they’re trying their best.
So this happened a few years ago but i thought you'd all like it… I worked at a coffee factory where we imported, roasted packaged and shipped out coffee all across the country. It was a fun gig. I had multiple duties but my main one was packing the ups boxes. It was tedious, and long hours but my coworkers made it worth it. However my supervisor was the worst. She had the worst attitude. She would cuss at us, throw things, yell at people and go as far as to threaten people. She was married to one one the higher ups so she was basically invincible there. And, to her credit, she did do an excellent job besides the abuse. She was fast and always got shit done. Fast forward five years later and I had finally had enough. I told her boss if I didn't move to another…
I shudder to think about the egos, stress and drama. You couldn’t pay me enough NOT to be around those people.
