I work in a sub contractor steel structure plans drafting company and most workers are over 45 yo. Most of them plans to retire by 65yo. One of my coworker is 70yo and he is in hospital now. This weekend he passed out for undisclosed reasons. He was not really performing at job lately. He was not really “there”. My boss said we need someone that have more mental clarity. Another, about 60 yo took a 1 month break to relax because “he don't feel right”. I remember my father saying he won at life if he retires before 65yo. Our HR company had my PTO rate at part-time even though I’ve been full-time for two years. I had no idea. This is my first full-time job with actual benefits so I had no idea how that stuff works. Luckily, my job fired the HR company and gave me my missed PTO so I have a ton of PTO that I can take. Though, I feel guilty taking the time off.
