I think we are putting way too much hope on a general strike. Open a history book and find out what happened at the first.. People were slaughtered. Do you know what they've done to other countries. Do you know the extent of what we did to Vietnam? Do you know what we do to other countries? You think they won't do that to us?? I'm not saying that we should never have one. I don’t know why I need 3 different types of health insurance. Eye, dental and health? Is this just a slick way to milk us even more? Aren’t all 3 related to your health? If you have fucked up teeth, it can directly impact your heart health and if your vision is poor or if you have some sort of medical condition with your eye isn’t they technically your health?
why do we settle fo 4 day work week?
I refuse to give more than 49% of my week to work, I'd rather die than do so. corporations will get less than 50% of my week or they will get none of it, I aim for 3 days a week or less, if I have 2 I'm willing to take extra shifts if they appear to me but i wont seek them out. eBay is outsourcing jobs
Company announcement was made that jobs were being outsourced to Phillipines. They said people won't get fired, but transitioned onto different teams. Typically, this is done to save money on labor. No reason was given though as to why, but was presented as exciting opportunities for employees. Companies have long outsourced US jobs strictly for cheap labor. It's just sad to see a company who states they value its employees to do something like this. We have to see how they handle this transition or what jobs they give out. Typically, jobs are less wanted than what they had. Just a frustrating way to start the work week.

Living in Belgium, got a Bachelor's and 2 high school diploma equivalents.I've been working for 10 years at a company as IT Helpdesk, didn't care too much until the company grew too much in 2019 and the human touch got lost. Was forcibly dragged from home office last autumn, way before the rest of the country. Strict controlling measures are in place (though, due to having some technical knowledge, I have subverted these, and a good friend in the Sysadmins is also here, hi!, which means bypassing some of these measures is at least not too tough). Working '8 hours', but in reality this 9-5 is a 9-6, and regularly on-call for a week with little compensation. Location-based pay scale?
Hi all, curious on what this sub’s take is on companies switching to location-based pay scales for remote workers. Today an HR rep was added to a department meeting to talk to us about upcoming changes to the company’s pay scales. Now that my department is considered fully remote, back in February we had to submit our home addresses to be taxed based on that location instead of our “home” or closest office location. They haven’t fully figured out the new pay scales yet, just that it’ll be location-based and they’ll release more info on it in late April when it goes into effect. It sounds like employees that live in more expensive areas will be paid more for doing the same job than ones working in more affordable areas. 10ish year old at a grocery store
I went to a local grocery store in a fairly wealthy town tonight. 8:30 on a school night. There’s a child who’s definitely way too young to be working bagging groceries. The cashier sees that my gf and I made a face at each other when we realized that a sleepy looking kid is bagging our stuff and said “That’s my managers daughter, we’re short staffed so they brought their kid in. She does a good job.” What the actual fuck?? It’s not hard to bag your own groceries… that kid should have been in bed. The store was open for another hour too.
Signing In/Out
My employers time system runs in 15 minute intervals. So if you are supposed to be at work at 9:30 and get there at 9:38 you are technically getting paid from 9:45 on. They are fine with that of course. However, if after we are closed and everything is done we want to leave at 5:24 they will not let us and arbitrarily make us stay until exactly 5:30. My Boss gets VERY upset when some leaves at 5:24 even though according to their own system they will get paid until 5:30 and there is absolutely nothing to do. We literally stand there holding onto our belongings looking at the clock like a bunch of school kids for the bell to ring so we can go home.
