good luck y’all! we got this!
I can’t believe how insulting this is..
(Preface, I'm on mobile. Sorry for any formatting issues) So I've been with the same company, doing okay for almost a decade, but I'd like to make a little more, and move to an area where that's feasible, so naturally, I'm shopping around, and think I might have found a winner. So I find their info, and manage to get in touch with their HR personnel, and I'm going over some questions that I've got written down. Things are okay, pretty good rate of pay, it's a union facility, I'm not a fan of 12's but I'll work them, whatever. So then I hit paid vacation. And she tells me that for a one year (12 month period) I get 4. That's right, FOUR days of PTO. It's disgraceful. It's disgusting. I'm still in shock, I'm torn between being pissed off and laughing at the sheer audacity.
Used for optics, treated like crap
Deliberately vague… My apologies. It's starting to get to me. I work for a big company, and it was not a secret that I was brought on because I'm not white. I get emails asking for specific pieces of work so it can be used to show higher ups that investing in people like me wasn't a mistake. Look at what they've produced, with OUR training and OUR methods. Except… I've had to figure a lot of things out on my own. I've had to seek people out and ask for advice, because their training programs only scratched the surface of what I needed to know. All while… My less than stellar knowledge of our giant employee handbook is used to exploit me into unpaid overtime and switching shifts without the proper notice. While I get the old office – alone and away from everyone while my other coworkers get…
We recently had our pay reviews, which were nothing less than abysmal (I am less than £20 extra better off despite my efforts and taking onnextra responsibility…yay…) and today how did we get to “celebrate success?” With a pizza party of course!!!!! Oh and ice cream next week…hooray!!!! [/S] And they wonder why people are leaving left, right and centre!!!
Starbucks is offering raises to non union stores, this reacting to the unions and proving that they’re necessary. Also, threatening employees thinking about unionizing with no raises is blatantly illegal, so https://www.seattletimes.com/business/starbucks/starbucks-plans-wage-increases-that-wont-apply-to-unionized-workers/
