A brief rant about the American Dream
Getting laid off today.
I work for a software company in sales and two weeks ago we had a company wide meeting. They talked about how the company was “headed in a different direction”. Someone asked if there will be layoffs and they said that after the big wigs meet with the investors they will know more. I had a gut feeling that this wasn’t going to end well so I immediately submitted applications to other software companies. First one I applied to got back to me within the hour and I had 4 interviews in 4 days. Was offered the position last Friday. I was going to put my two weeks in on Friday but have a meeting today with the VP of Sales for a “Business Update” aka laid off as confirmed by others in my company that had the same meeting yesterday. why is there a cop shortage?
Because nobody wants to risk there life for $15 an hour and be disrespected.
At my old job, if you failed to clock out, they “assumed” you forgot and it was policy to deduct 1/2 and hour of pay each day. I'm guessing I know the answer to my question already, so if it is wage theft, what kind of documentation would I need to do to report it? What kind of statute of limitations am I looking at? And finally if it's too late to help myself, then how to go about reporting it anyway to help the people who still work there? I worked there waaaayyy too long, just did some quick calculations and the amount of hours stolen from me is sickening. Editing to clarify that I would often not take a break and would work through lunch. And it was known in smaller circles that to avoid it, all you had to do was clock out and clock back in…
