“Hello, I noticed that I no longer have 3 day weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) anymore. I cant understand my schedule being changed so drastically and not having my thoughts and feelings considered. I already requested my schedule return to 3 12 hour and 1 4 hour shift and was ignored/denied which I was fine with since I still had my 3 day weekends. I understand its for the needs of the unit but I need to consider myself as well and its unacceptable my schedule is constantly changed without my permission. I would like 1 of the 2 to be considered so I can have more satisfaction in my work. If I continue to work every other Friday I would like to at least work 3 12s and 1 4 hour or go back to having 3 day weekends. I will accept either of these but I cannot accept none…

Forgive the rant but it seemed like a healthy way to talk about the gangrenous thorn that is a student loan, currently stuck in my ass. So I like many folks, find myself in the “I'm graduated, being paid OK money, but life and loan payments are so expensive I'm drowning” boat. I pay about $520 a month for my student loans, and each time I make a payment I wanna smash my computer into tiny pieces from pure, unfiltered rage. Life would SO much easier without it, I mean it is a literal rent payment that vanishes into thin air every month and for what? Talking with people like my family makes me wanna stick a fork in my leg when their response to it in discussion is “well when I was your age I had to pay monthly on my car/house/boat/rocket ship” like goddamn…. how do you not…

I left my last place of employment abruptly due to a hostile work environment. First time in my life leaving a position without giving notice (well, gave same day and walked out), and also first time leaving without having something else already lined up. I'm currently job searching. I've been getting TONS of interviews. I've never felt more validated in my life and KNOW that I made the right decision. Here's my dilemma: I just received a very good offer at a company (Company #1) to do a job I actually didn't apply for; during the interview process they thought I might be a good fit for a similar job, so they had me do interviews for that position too. I work in a often stressful job for ridiculously low wages in Mississippi. (In mental health field. Only make 11/hr). I work back to back 12 hour shifts which usually go way over because my replacements often show up extremely late. I found out today I’m being expected to attend a class 2 hours after a 12 hour shift ends which is expected to last until 6 hours before my next shift at least. I already struggle to get enough sleep and have medical issues that contribute to that problem. I sent an email to get clarification about if this is really the expectation but haven’t heard back yet. There apparently isn’t a single law regarding this issue and an employer can legally require you to work 24/7 if they give you the legally required breaks.
