Been with an org for just about 5 years. Praise and yadda yadda,. occasionally been brought to HR like 3-4 times a week because people felt they were being 'neglected' and only to find out that HR found no conclusive evidence to support it. Well anyway fast forward to today I've been here by myself supporting the entire org to have them bring in a higher manager to not do anything technical but rather to manage me. Getting the resume dusted off and I'm not training anyone higher than me. Sink or swim just like I did when I joined. This is their definition of 'help' which is too many chiefs and not enough Indians (no offense).
It’s time to push back
Had my septic system serviced…
Turned out to be a bigger job than I expected. A tree root had made its home inside and created a top soil layer that was risking the integrity of the entire tank. The guy, must have been early 20's, spends his evening inside cleaning everything out. I have nothing better to do and I'm from a place where we don't have septic, so this is a new thing for me. I'm just hanging out the whole time as a result. During the process we're talking and I ask him how much he makes. He says $18/hr. I ask “So out of however much this costs, you're going to walk away with…checks my phone clock…60 bucks?” He says “Yeah, probably.” I frown “And all the company does is provide you the truck?” The guy shrugs, “Yeah pretty much.” I let him work. Eventually he's done, my lawn is a bit…
Sales Manager Set to Fail?
I'm not a frequent Reddit poster – but what I saw here was so bizarre I had to post it here. We have a business development director, a sales manager, and a sales rep at the company. The BDD oversees the sales manager who oversees the one sales rep. The BDD makes about 150k a year, while the other 2 positions make 35k base + 10k commission there used to be a lot more sales reps but they all quit a few months ago. The sales manager has been here since January and the BDD has been around since 2018. Recently, the sales manager found out a job posting for a new sales rep position that pays $55k on Indeed for our company! She brought it up to the BDD and she said once the new sales rep starts the management pay will move up to the new rate. Everything…
Welcome Back Pizza Party!
Last year both my bosses got COVID at different times, and they both worked from home, now I got COVID. My dad said I should work from home to prove that I care, but I shouldn’t have to do that. Working till 9pm and working on Saturdays and taking shorter lunch breaks should already prove my commitment. I shouldn’t have to work when I’m sick, specially with COVID. I have a doctor’s note saying that I can be absent for 7 days and legally don’t have to work.
After the highschool I took a gap-year and decided to work for a couple of months to ‘get the feel of it’. Decided to apply as a waitress in the small downtown restaurant-hotel. Maybe 10-15 tables inside and the same amount in the terrace. My work day started at 5:30, preparation for breakfast buffet for hotel guests and general help in the kitchen. ~9am cleaning up and some time after lunch would start, it was the worst as mostly all tables were busy. I had several breakdowns and had to serve all puffy with runny mascara. In the evening there wasnt too much of visitors only at the bar, that I also had to look after. Kitchen would leave at 8pm but I had to stay until bar closed aka until all customers leave. It would be sometimes at 10pm sometimes at 3am. So I would see the same customers…
Indiana, United States. So I get paid breaks/lunch. We’re not allowed to leave the property so I don’t. BUT they also tell me I cannot sit in my car even on the property???? I don’t feel like smoking my cigarettes in the freezing cold. This rule makes no sense and dunno if there’s a law where they can’t have that policy of me not being in my car? Thanks.
