This happened at the end of last year, while my boss was making the schedule for December she asked me what my plans were for the holidays, a little context, i live/work/study in a different city then my family, i kindly asked to have a week off from December 24th to 1st of January to visit my parents since i missed both my parent's birthday's since she wouldn't let me take at least 2 days off in a roll to visit (i live 8 hours away from my family) Now shes ranting about how its unacceptable that i want to take both Christmas and new year's off and how we're only allowed to take one off, even though I'll be working from 11 am to 3 pm which is a COMPLETE waste of time and makes it so im unable to go home. “But everyone wants to be with their…
For everyone living in the United States, the server staff DOES NOT WANT A NO TIPPING WORK ENVIRONMENT. The service industry has heard your arguments, we don't want it. LEAVE US THE FUCK ALONE. The service industry has heard “lovely stories about employers paying living wage” WE DO NOT WANT THAT. The service industry workers have heard about that Pittsburg restaurant, that New York restaurant, WE DO NOT WANT THAT. Furthermore, leave us the fuck alone. WE DO NOT WANT IT. Get it throufh your heads. If you really want it know, ask on r/serverlife, or any server based reddit thread. We want you to all fuck off. Unless 30+ dollars an hour is on the table, fuck off.

About three months ago, we had a winter storm system with freezing rain move through. Just after our morning break began, 'Jane' slipped on a patch of ice while going out for a smoke. She ended up shattering her left wrist which required surgery. 'Jane ' had seven pins put in and was off three weeks. She came back with a one pound restriction. And she was allowed to work for four hours a day. 'Jane' was excited to finally have the brace off (never had a cast) without any weight restriction. Now here is the jerk move. You would think work would give 'Jane' her time back. Nope. Did not happen. They only gave her two hours back. She now works six hours a day. She asked our plant manager about giving all her time back. He gave her a bs excuse six hours is enough time for her.…
I got a new job that requires a background check/doctor visit as a condition of hire, and my new employer said the company will not reimburse me as these requirements are given by the state rather than the company. It will cost me a significant amount, and I'll do it because I need a job, but I didn't realize this was something employers were able to do. I'm in North Carolina if that helps
The Saga of the Worst Vape Shop Ever
I began my employment at a vape shop in November 2019 as I had quit my previous job of managing a beer shop due to lack of wage increase. At first, everything was ok, but then red flags began to emerge. It was revealed that the son in law of the owner, who was the manager, was on Meagan's law for sleeping with and harassing a six-teen year old girl. It wasn't long before I realized this thirty six year old creep was a complete degenerate, and was manipulating a nine-teen year old girl to perform sex acts in the back on the shop in exchange for vape products. Then the pandemic hit, and we were closed for the most part. Only going in to grab supplies and etc. Flash forward to summer time 2020, my hours were cut from 36 hours to maybe 14. I didn't care much as…
Threats at work have me ready to go
A bit of background, I’ve been reading this subreddit for a bit now but this is my first post. Long story short had to remove a creepy customer from my store for sexually harassing a female coworker and was met with racist jabs and threats of violence and rape. After removing said customer from the store and sheltering inside for 30 minutes waiting for a officer to arrive , we were told by a HR rep to decline to file charges and to let them handle those issues. The customer was arrested but will likely walk free due to the lack of pressed charges. Interviewing for a new job on Tuesday. God help us all. Tired and fed up cashier Ps the company I work for prides itself on making the “rite” decisions
Workplace: “We care about the mental health and well-being of all our employees!” Worker: “Um, how so?” Workplace: “We totally do! We made a social media post about it!” Worker: “So does that mean you’ll be taking proactive action to improve the mental health and well-being of your employees?” Workplace: “Absolutely! How can we help?!” Worker: “Well given the high rates of inflation, a pay rise that matches the increase in the cost of living would take a lot of stress off my colleagues and I……” Workplace: “……….” Worker: “Um, well…….” Workplace: “Yeah, not like that. Here’s a link to a mindfulness video on YouTube.”
Makes me feel guilty for calling in sick
I have a weak immune system so I get sick quite often, but I normally power through and work my full days normally. The last few weeks however has been quite rough for my body, and I have not had the time to actually recover fully due to shortage of staffs leading to me working overtime. So I have to call in sick today, in the morning roughly 4 hours before work starts, then I got yelled at for being lazy and for calling in last minute. They make it seem like the shortage of staffs issue is on me and I am questioning why I have been working so hard and feeling unworthy.
