I hate tipping culture. Not because I hate servers making living wage. I hate tipping culture like how I hate that the tax is calculated after, how there are ridiculous extra fees on hotel booking and uber eats orders. The ONLY reason why you’d put 18% “service fee” or 14% “fair wage fee” is so that you can lure in customers with your low ‘base fee’ and then jack up the price at the till to promote more spending. That avocado toast isn’t really $12 like it says on the menu, it’s really $16 after tip&tax. Instead of saying you will be putting on some made up ‘fee’, include it in the price so I can actually see what I will be paying. Abolish tipping and put down what the actual price is on the menu so I know exactly what I am paying when I order. Stop tricking people…
Been working this new job about a month and this was dropped on me with no choice 2 days ago. The possibility of working nights was never brought up doing interviews, orientation, etc. and I never would have agreed to take this job if I knew. Tried to talk to my boss about how I don’t feel safe at all being out there working either on my own or with only male strangers and was essentially blown off. I have no idea what to do with myself and I’m having panic attacking in the middle of work convinced something bad is going to happen to me. I want to quit so bad but I can’t be unemployed right now. I don’t even get differential pay for working nights or time and a half pay for any overtime. I’m doing all this for a straight $20 an hour, barely over the…
everyone thinks their my boss
I work alongside another company that are clients of the one I work for. Everyday I am treated like everyone's subordinate and it's starting to really irritate me. No matter what I say they can't seem to understand that I'm not their employee and my boss won't do anything since these people pay a lot of money for our services. They tell me how to do my job that they've never done and tey to get me to do things that aren't part of my job description. I like this job for the most part but damn places like this make me want to quit.
The worst job I ever had.
I have been through a few jobs in my time. At one point I was even juggling 5 different shitty casual jobs. But this one takes the cake. It was in insurance sales. I read the add, I was desperate and centrelink was making me record at least 20 job applications each week. I did the interview. They explained the job was commission only, but there was a retainer for the first 6 months to get you started. There was a week and a half mandatory training and I would be given accommodation and a food budget. Again, I really needed a job. Less than a week before the training they rang and asked if I could find my own accommodation. I said no. Suddenly they found something for me. I started work. Suddenly “too many people had been taking advantage of the retainer and quitting as soon as the…
Hi, Im just gonna say sorry for mistakes but eng is not my first language. So im 22y old, recently i got new job. They pay fine I guess (19.70 is minimum, im making 23). Im working here since 3 months with no previous experience. My boss is a guy (45y) and he Is really cool, I like him but he works every other day so I have to be alone with 2 women (31 and 30), they work here since 5 and 8 years. Usualy they are fine but they are such a toxic people, everyday I have to think if they are in “mood” or not. What if they are not? Well, they will attack me for literally everything. They say things like “If u dont know something then ask, we will help u :))” just so when I ask (and boss is not there) they are like…
Approved vacation results in penalties
Took a week off for vacation, including the two day weekend. Had the hours and was approved by the supervisor. Since it was a mandatory weekend, I was expected to show up for my shift on those two days I had been approved off. Now the supervisor is definitely being harder on all the other employees. And there is rumor of a disciplinary action against me. Hasn't happened yet. But if that does happen, I will be asking for a copy of the approved time off request and the disciplinary paperwork and contacting OSHA. Just wanted additional input.
When is it time for me to quit?
I work remote full time for a small “consulting” company focused on software implementations for small to large companies. I have been with the company for a little over a year. The company is severely understaffed, has been since I started. It is clear that employees are struggling on the projects that we are actively working on, but management and sales continue selling more projects, setting unrealistic deadlines, preparing unrealistic estimates, moving staff to and from projects, blaming employees for project failures (despite raising our concerns around deadlines and estimates and asking for help)…I am at a point where I am not even productive anymore. I stare at my computer screen most of the day just feeling undervalued, like my work is useless anyways, like my career has gone backwards, guilty knowing the clients have been misled and I just lack motivation entirely to do any work and feel absolutely…
Isn’t that YOUR job?
So I have read quite a few posts over the last few months and a good number of them have mentioned a manager and their employee during a text or verbal exchange about the employee needing some time off for whatever reason. Then the manager or supervisor tells the employee they need to find a replacement in order for them to be off. Maybe I might be missing something in the last 20 years I have worked but isn't that the manager's job? I mean they are the one that is the best equipped to know who is off and who might be available. I mean if I'm going to be calling around and doing part of your job as manager, what the heck are you there for besides to take up empty space? Luckily I don't have an issue with that at my job but I can see the…
