Hey all, I'm a long time lurker but this is my first post here. I'm writing a paper on the american dream 100 years ago vs. today for my Englisch class, and am having trouble finding reputable articles and sources that align with a leftist perspective. I'm not American, or from America, which makes it a bit more challenging to grasp the idea (although I think I've got that now), but also means that I can pretty much say as many negative things as I want about America without being ridiculed in any way (which is nice). I'm looking for reputable, citable sources – as well as ideas or topics I might be able to cover. I firmly believe that the American dream is dead – it seems no amount of hard work really pays off for Americans. So finding material that confirms (or at least doesn't contradict) that idea.…
I absolutely hate my boss
My granpda had a recent severe stroke caused by a brain bleed and I've had to miss a lot of work over the past month because my whole family was prepared for him to die at any minute and I wanted to spend time with him. As well, I had a 2 1/2 week scheduled vacation, which I took (not the whole 2 1/2 weeks) once we knew he was stable and wasn't going to die as a direct result of this stroke. Fast forward to today and I went to go visit my grandpa, he's been pretty good over the past few weeks, or at least as good as he can be, but when I saw him today he didn't register with me at all. I said “Hi grampy (the whole families nickname for him), how are you doing?” and I got no response. He was struggling to get…
Get a job selling cars.
Seems like a ton of people are in a situation where they work so incessantly that they have no extra time to do anything. No time for hobbies, no time to learn new skills, no time to look for other jobs. If that's already the case and you're making no money and you can't make ends meet, get a job selling cars. It's a lifer job where the sales people essentially work there all day everyday but if you're decent you'll make 80 – 100K a year. Not a hard job to get, but a hard job to do for a lot of people. If you're already in a desperate situation making no money why not give yourself the opportunity to maximize income rather than be stuck making a shitty wage? Also, for those that think that anyone that sells anything is an evil slime ball, you're wrong. One can…
this is just a meme but…..
this is exactly what's happening rn
Corporate greed at it’s finest! Software businesses are supposed to add features to software! How did companies even survive before the vampire subscription model?! They also mention they need to be able to retain talent…. when they don’t even have real customer support and are one of those “community forums for support” companies. What a load of tone deaf bullshit.
A funner job

Lay offs are on the horizon..
I recommended our group stay home the day of if we are impacted. I was met with “Wouldn't you want to speak face to face?” Um… you think people want to get fully dressed, drive all the way to work, probably work 2-3 hours, while forced to sit with an ominous feeling of impending doom suffocating everyone? Oh, not even mentioning the potential walk of shame out of the building. Fucking pass. Let me stay my ass at home.
So I want to quit my job. But it’s usually a month or more before I even get my first paycheck from a new job. I have absolutely no savings as I’m paycheck to paycheck, but if I stay here much longer I’m going to die. literally. i have to stop myself from unbuckling my seat belt & driving off the highway every morning. I cry during my lunch (when I get one). I’m suffering immensely physically and emotionally. Besides that, I just really need some guidance on moving over. Do y’all have any tips or financial resources that would allow me to be able to safely switch jobs but still have money to eat/for bills?
