Shame on you /s for those of you who didn’t pick up on it. You’d think that not participating in an economy would create deflationary pressures but that’s just my 16.5 cents. https://news.yahoo.com/millions-people-left-us-job-145829862.html
About one month ago, I left my previous job due to crazy overtime that was not paid and landed another job that offered me a better position, higher compensation and more life/work balance friendly schedule. No regrets. I’ve been in touch with one of my ex-coworkers (let’s call him R) who also wasn’t having any of it and was on the verge of quitting. Finally, he did it just on the last week and then told me about his rather curious dialogue with our ex-boss. Here’s one important piece of info before I proceed to tell the rest of the story. Me and R weren’t the first ones to quit our department, the exodus was started by another guy (let’s call him K) around a half year ago. K quit the job in the middle of an important project due to the exact same reasons, and the boss wasn’t happy…
Let’s compile a list of red flags for jobs – things said by both management and recruitment. I’ll start with three red flags: What the boss says “We’re not a team, we’re a family”. What they mean: “we approve of light emotional abuse and still expect you to come back to work”. What management says “the wage and hours here are competitive”. What they mean: “it’s going to be $3-$8 above minimum wage and you’re expected to do unpaid admin”. What bosses say “we all have to sometimes give 110%”. What they mean: “I’m expecting you to do a job outside what you’ve been hired and paid to do and I expect you to do it”.
Do they seriously expect us to fuck up our sleeping patterns and circadian rhythms every week? Don't worry about hobbies, childcare or anything else that isn't work, no. You have to sacrifice all your time and all hours of the night just to fucking pack rice. This shit is actually hilarious. Whatever happened to the 9-5?
Jobs are the worst way to make money
For instance in my field, if I get a “job” I'm probably going to make about $50k a year working full time. That's roughly $25 an hr. But if I freelance I can charge $50 an hr, work half as much and make the same amount of $. It's really a no brainer… I've never been more poor than when I've had a “job.”
Hey all. I've been following this subreddit for a while and it has pushed me in great directions and line of thoughts. I'm really greatful for everyone sharing and helping each other. This next month (May 27th and 28h), an international summit regarding the Four Day Week will be happening in Valencia (Spain). Registrations are open, both physical and online, and it's completely free. There will be people from academia, companies (like Andrew Barnes, from Perpetual Guardian and 4dayweek), and politics (a key one being Yolanda Díaz, one of the most important leaders from the left in Spain and minister of labor). Since it's an international summit, I'm hoping they will do live translating for english/spanish non-speakers. Truly hope this sparks some conversations around the globe and in my country. Here's the link! -> https://www.fourdayweeksummit.com/
You think your position matter to me? No stupid your call was invalid since your marble brain didnt input the right support team. Oh you think repeating your question will help with the problem? I'm sorry the only that might fix is your fragile ego. I hate it when people think they're position is really important like what thats gonna do? Your still a human being(albeit a devolve one)
Am I wrong for quitting?
I had started a new job in June. The onboarding process took a week, so I waited til I was officially a member of their team to let them know about s day off I needed. (Pretty important dentist appointment that I had been waiting two months for) I said I didn’t even need the whole day off if it was gonna be an issue, just the few hours before closing. I was told okay and then later in the week, that was a few days before the appointment, the manager said no (bc the other girl working requested off first. Mind you, she was hired two weeks before me.) I got pretty upset bc rescheduling would be a pain in the ass – I couldn’t wait for a few more months. It was ridiculous. And then I thought ‘well if she said no to one day, she will for…
