Question regarding potential wage theft

Yesterday I clocked out around 440 pm. Go the the supermarket and as I'm about to get on the freeway and head home I receive a call from my boss at 510. He can't find the padlocks for a storage area and the remote to open a garage door on an adjacent building is missing. I tell him where to find the padlocks, and check and see the remote is in my jacket. He hmms and haws for a second but wants me to bring back the remote. Okay, I'll bring it back, turn on the freeway to head back to work. Then he asks how far I am, about 10 min driving time, and tries to tell me that they can probably do without it. However I'm already on my way, tell him as much, and mention that he can pay me for my time. Drop off the remote,…

How exactly would taxing a persons net worth work?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of the rich paying taxes. But i don't understand how that would work necessarily. For example, Musk is worth something like $400 billion. but that doesn't mean he has $400 billion in the bank. His liquidity and his net worth are not the same, nor is his income. He, like everyone else in America, pays a tax on an asset. Any of you who have paid for a car, for property tax, bought a fridge, a stove, a freaking candy bar, have done the same. The difference is, his purchases appreciate in value. i don't know about the rest of you, but I've never known a car to appreciate in value. I've never seen a candy bar become worth more than when you bought it. I've never seen a fridge appreciate in value. Hell, I'm living out of my car, and my…

Not Handling The Recoil Of Being Forcefully Resigned By My Previous Employer Very Well.

MI, USA. Right to work state. Have not been handling the recoil from getting forcefully resigned from my previous employer very well. Started off in a starting position where I was making $14 an hour and working about 34 hours a week. Loved it. Did lots of other tasks outside my job description. Essentially covering multiple job aspects while in that position. I did not mind though. Kept me busy and I performed well with a great attitude. I was often told by other employees that I brightened their day. Got a promotion with a lot more responsibility. The position was salary plus commission. I was estimated to earn at least $2800 a month. I worked up to 52hrs a week with a minimum of 46hrs a week. I never hit my projected earnings. Reason being, the business is slow and the abilities of my new position was restricted by…

Is it weird that a potential employer wouldn’t tell me the pay before an interview? [UK]

Is it weird that a potential employer wouldn't tell me the pay before an interview? It's a retail store in UK, it's likely minimum wage and yet they were very weird when I asked. Also got weirder when I said I have an offer from someone else as well. They wanted to know who (why?). I said I'd rather not share (cause they were weird about pay) and obvs that just burned all bridges right away. Weird experience all over, need someone to validate me cause I feel so awkward now. Don't even care about the job offer as I already have one.

I’m sick and tired and impatient customers and I’m on the verge of quitting

I recently started working remotely for an insurance agent that’s located in the western US. I’ve worked for the same big insurance company but for a different agent previously. Kind of the opposite problem now, before it was terrible agent and somewhat terrible customers, now it’s customers that are driving me so crazy and stressed that I have increased anxiety issues, more palpitations, have gotten hemorrhoids now, but great boss. Gives me time off to go and be involved in my kids school and go do things like kindergarten graduation. But after this week I’m really really over it, customers that don’t even give you 24 hours to respond to an email before becoming hysterical, dealing with claims, and banks contradicting themselves but getting impatient and throwing you under the bus when it’s really on the mutual customer. I have dreaded every day this week since Tuesday. If it wasn’t…

Background Checks

I work in recruiting for a call center and TIL that something as trivial as a charge for resisting an officer without violence will still cost you a job 5 years later even after your probation is up. Wow. Just… wow. So no redemption arcs then?
