Hi friends, I think I’m going to put my two weeks in (but not until I have another job in place). I have a full list of complains about this job, but I want to hear from others on what you think is considered some toxic workplace examples. Let me know what you’ve got. Thanks! X
I have worked in my current job for 4 years. Excelled all targets, slightly changed role into more of a senior position around 9 months ago. There has been some changes within the company recently meaning there is a position available to essentially manage the team (I pretty much am doing the role without the pay at the moment). My skills set is already there to manage the team clearly, but before they said they can give me more money. I have to complete certain tasks which have never been part of this role before. I feel like I'm having to jump through hoops and give them extra work for no guarantee I am going to get the position/pay rise. Do you think I'm right in saying that unless I get a guarantee that my pay will increase I'd prefer not to complete these tasks ? 2nd to that am…
Are you kidding me???
Temp Agencies
They are literally the worst. Want you to do things that they don’t even do. I’m so sick of using them to find me work. Why do I have to call y’all everyday. Then can’t find you work because you didn’t give a week notice before quitting a assignment. Job searching sucks.
Panel interviews
Hi all, I’ve been a self employed/contract worker for a few years and was trying to find some stable pay while I build up my business again. On a whim, applied for an overnight job (probably overqualified for given my master’s but you know how it is). Almost immediately canceled the Google Meet interview invitation last week when I saw there were seven attendees other than myself. Is there ever any reason to have seven interviewers for a entry level position other than to intimidate and grill you? At any rate, got a call this morning asking if I was showing up and five minutes later got an email that they decline to move forward despite me being the one that declined.
Toxic Job Relief Group
Would it be possible to form some type of organization that donates to help mistreated employees leave toxic work environments? Or does one already exist? I’d gladly pay $5 a month to someone who needed out of a bad position like that. If you have a big enough group, it’s definitely possible to supplement someone’s pay until they can get a better job. I’m sure it’s much more difficult than that, but just a thought.
Upwork is really something else.
My spouse works for a small clothing company. She and 2 of her coworkers are immigrants on OTP visas so they do not have many options for jobs. Their boss, the owner/manager of the clothing company has already done some blatantly illegal things such as make jokes about jews (my spouse is jewish and the owner is german soo uhh yikes there), asking personal details about employees' personal lives, telling an employee not to share her salary, stating out loud that she will not hire men to work for her, and installing cameras with sound recording. This is on top of being verbally abusive towards the employees causing most of the americans employed to quit. The workspace is in the basement of building and on Thursday the basement caught on fire (thankfully no one was there). The basement is full of cardboard boxes and materials for making the clothing. oregon pay question
My company shorted dozens of workers on a day they offered time and a half to get longer shifts out of folks, they have said for two paychecks now it will be on the next paycheck. I am trying to seek out legal aid on this cause under our contract and employee handbook this was a company holiday. I'm worries cause they also offered everyone who worked that day 8 hours of PTO and today told us it was “a miscommunication.” This is the third miscomunication since I started 9 months ago. I am leading a unionization effort at my store and I don't want to add to the trouble that management is going to bring down once it becomes official, is this worth pursuing ot should I focus on the union effort and revisit this at contract negotiations?
