Got to know how to exploit the loopholes.
So I work in Japan and the bonus is a built-in part of the salary – often worth a third of your entire annual pay – but your workplace can hang it over your head (‘if we don’t make enough money this year, who knows…’). My work tried to cut my bonus in half this morning and I walked out. Wouldn’t post it on antiwork except my amazing boss, who tried his best to fight on my behalf, told me he’d have done the same in my position and to make sure I post my moment of glory on here.
My employer, a popular nationwide chain involved in retail, has chosen to implement a new policy of “You cannot leave until I say so.” as a means of ensuring productivity. I find it incredibly dehumanizing and unappreciative of the efforts I consistently provide. I work an 8 hour shift, full time in an atmosphere that fluctuates between being understaffed and overstaffed meanwhile the workload from night to night also fluctuates in a manner inconsistent with staffing. I transferred to a new location with the company a month ago and quickly rose to the being a top performer, supposedly respected by management, in my new branch. I apologize for the grammar issues. I work overnights, I'm tired physically and mentally but also pissed off. It feels like I am passively being told that I am owned while also being subjected to a “classroom group project” work theme where the efficient individuals…
And would you? Asking for the UK but happy to edit this post with answers for anywhere else. I figure if we expect job postings to tell us the salary they're offering, why wouldn't we put the salary we're expecting? It would show a clear progression in our salary increases over time and communicate that we consider it part of the job, not a bonus of it. Personally I'd adjust for inflation, but otherwise I'd be honest about it; it's an opportunity to show what it looks like to have a bit of integrity, rather than dangling a carrot for the old bait-and-switch like we've heard about on this very sub.
We're being made to all stand in two lines outside so that he can walk through the middle of us towards the door. Whilst working here it's felt like living with an abusive parent, and now we're being forced to treat him like the Queen. How do I get out of this?
I don't know if my problem is related to this sub but I gotta vent out. I'm a teacher working for a reputed school in my town. Throughout my teaching career, I've never had any complain relating to my teaching. I believe I'm a good teacher, although not the best, but I give my 100% every single day. So I was called to principal' s office and he told me that I need to buckle up and improve my teaching because one parent complained that her son was getting very less marks in my subject. I told my boss that maybe the problem is with that particular student and not me. I get it.. If 30 students fail to bring even an average score in my subject then that's my problem. But no matter how good you teach, there'll always be that one student who will not do well. Any…
3 hours unpaid shadowing
Company wants me to do 3 hours of shadowing before being told if I’m hired. After 2 hours of interviews. I want to write a respectful but firm response declining. Please help.
I have had a fair share of jobs in my life. And lately I'm starting to see a trend of work assigning online courses to finish at home for work without getting paid. Some jobs expect you to sit for hours and finish multiple courses of slow infographics and some stupid questions like should you do your work and use common sense or ignore it? Most of it is stupid common knowledge, but I will admit some offer valuable and necessary knowledge. However, I don't think its fair to demand us to do this in our free time without getting compensated. In the olden days we would go through courses in person and it would count towards our work time, but now its a given for every new employee to sit at home doing this courses for no pay. Honestly, maybe its not that bad. But my course has this…

A little insight to another abusive small business, was out sick waiting on a Covid test result and was constantly harassed and threatened by my manager while out which was only 5 days. Long story short ended up quitting their because they were going to reduce my hours from FT to PT because of me being sick. Horrible work environment. Owners managers who are salaried take tips from front line workers and then report and tax your cash tip earnings. Ready to eat food is all being handled with out any gloves. People are hacking up coughing from smoking, sick, etc all over food that’s being wrapped and ready to eat and serve. The lowest quality grade products are used. Currently in the legal process of serving them papers for failing to pay me out my final earned wages. I’ve contacted them multiple times in regards to it and they…
