People are quitting. Which means more and more gets piled onto my plate. Deadlines keep getting pushed or not met. And now I get to learn a whole new side of the business. Made a commitment to someone to help them out with a nice to have, a “health check” if you will. Problem is, this will take me at least half a day to get done. Half a day that I do not have. And I'm not working late or putting in time on the weekend because of someone elses nice to have. What really burns me is I was counting on this person to support me in getting information from relevant stakeholders. I copied them on all emails asking for the info. Asked every morning for 3 days. Still have not gotten it. The dude asking me for help is in the same building as those with the…
I’ve been at the same company for 4 years. I’m in a Union with the Utilities Workers of America. I work for one of my states largest Power and light companies. Since I’m passed my 4th year I no longer get a 6 month raise. I’m “topped out” . Just my annual raise in November which isn’t a raise due to inflation. I was getting 2 raises a year. Currently per our union contract it’s only a 2.75% raise. I’ve been frustrated ever since our contract went through because a lot of the new people voting didn’t even know or understand what they were voting for. I’m trying to stick it out to the next compact or contract because they are fighting for more things. But I just feel stuck because I could work over time to increase my pay/income but working Mon-Fri 8-5 is already exhausting and takes a…
Quitting etiquette advice?
I enjoy my current job (phlebotomist, drawing blood) but I’m going to go back to school and get a nursing certification because I don’t make enough money to live on. As such I am planning on quitting once I get registered for my nursing clincials and classes as I’ve passed every class I can hold down part time now. I don’t really feel like I’m on bad terms with my bosses and coworkers, but a big reason for me leaving is definitely the poor pay. This has also been discussed repeatedly by my coworkers amongst themselves that the pay is very bad for what our projected salaries and cost of living for our city is supposed to be even if the environment is good. Is it at all appropriate to mention the poor pay when I leave, or should I not say anything to remain on good terms if I…
I was working in a shop and I happen to be the only employee that has the skills to do certain jobs. This seems to be that start of the story for most employee's that get fucked over. I was leaving on the Thursday, and the boss assigned me a job for first thing on Friday morning. I advised him that I had booked the time off more then two months ago and had plans. He said that I had to cancel the plans and that is that! I responded with,”Why, I don't even work here!”. He was surprised as hell, and pointed out that yes I indeed do work there. I responded with a quick, “Not with that fucking attitude, I quit”. Long story short, he attempted to have me written up for my attitude. The Director had to sign off on the paperwork and the Supervisor was advised…
For the past 2 years, I've worked my ass off to climb the ladder in an attempt to make up for years of sitting around depressed in my early 20s. And in the past few months, I have been considered for a promotion to sub team manager. Now, a bit of context.. My employer is a huge company that you would have never heard of, who pay their staff poorly. Their glassdoor reviews are so bad that they actually asked people to write nice reviews to try and dilute the bad ones. Needless to say, that didn't work too well for them. So you can kind of see how deluded they are. Recently, a lot of us have been shouting about pay increases and have managed to get a decent increase, with me getting one of the biggest raises in the team (44% to be exact). But this wage is…
It's not what it seems. Not even close. For context the mayor that implemented it also gave his construction industry buddies a multi billion dollar deal for a dedicated busline that no one asked for which shut down business on the city's main strip for YEARS and which doesn't work any better than the regular buses and which killed several people because it was not designed well at all and is basically an accident waiting to happen. But back to the topic… The city of Albuquerque HEAVILY policies unsheltered people. And the unsheltered population is increasing. Even though they allow some tent cities to exist in certain parks they regularly bulldoze them at random and have the cops sweeping to harass unsheltered people all the time. They even created a lower level “safety” division that can go around and find unsheltered people just existing for the police to come harass.…
