Yes, it’s owned by corporate media or a hedge fund. But the actual people who work there? They’re your neighbors. They’re the only ones sitting through township and school board meetings (though not as many as 20 years ago) watching your tax dollars and unearthing corruption. They will ring the alarm when the fucking anti-“CRT” crowd tries to infiltrate the library and middle school. They are at every one of your kid’s sporting events, whether that’s Little League or state high school championships. They make 38k a year and work six days a week. When it’s gone, shudder to think what will go on. Because even in this digital age, the threat of “being on the front page of the paper” still keeps some black-hearted miscreants from going full evil.
I've been having this happen over the past few months as I'm looking around for a new job. Whether it's on Indeed, LinkedIn, or other job sites, I have clearly listed my previous jobs, certifications, and perspective employers can see where my skills lie (IT focused). I receive the email notifications that an employer is interested in me to apply for an open position. I can see in the job notice that I am not qualified for the position, but I'll apply because fuck it, you all reached out to me. I apply and then I receive an email or message back a few days later saying that I do not posses the qualifications for the position I applied for. The job that they invited me to apply for. Has this been happening to people a lot? I'm not sure what the point of doing this is. Like,…
Started my new job today. FML
Idk what I was thinking. I was completely fine without one. I’m a full-time college student and then some. I’m supported by scholarships and family. First day was brutal. Idk if this part time job is worth it.
I have been working for a university for over five years, hourly and the pay is shit. It was okay for a while then the last year or so got brutal. I asked for a promotion after all this time saying that I simply can’t afford to live on the pay anymore. They said good luck so I job searched and even got a few interviews. Then in October my supervisor told me that I was being transferred to a another department and I was getting a promotion. Just wait a few months and I will be all set. Well, they kept on delaying it and then my dad got COVID and was hospitalized for a month. My mom was in hysterics and the family were fighting, I was forced to take a week and a half off to deal with the crisis. They encouraged it even and kept on…
I am 30 years old. Mostly went to college and worked customer service jobs most of my life. And now I want to be an electrician. Like I really feel like I can do well in it. It sounds exciting to me, I love math, took Calculus 1 in college, the career sounds great to me honestly. But my family thinks it's dangerous and people are discouraging me from doing it. How possible is it to make my dreams come true and completely change my life into what seems like a more stressful job? And is it even all worth it? Being part of a union also sounds great to me. I went through the process and have an interview pretty soon.
Title explains: came from Blue Collar family and I only had 1 aunt on both sides that went to college. Me being a bright high schooler said “this is the way” out of poverty back breaking jobs. Tons of debt later and actually decent paying jobs out of college. Still struggling to break even fucking close to even since I graduated. In 2010. 12 years a slave.
So me and my family were traveling and a guy on a motorcycle was driving like an idiot and got hit by our car. That guy lost consciousness and we had to call an ambulance. My dad went with the ambulance to see if he's alright. This left me and my mom in the middle of nowhere. It was hard to find a taxi or a bus. My dad had called his employee and told him what happened. I guess my dads employee told my cousin what happened. Let's call my cousin x. So x called us and told that he works a few miles away. X can leave work in a few hours (also got his leave sanctioned for the next few days) but told us that he will leave from his office now and pick us up. X works in some kind of a private bank and told…
